Gailes Rd, Irvine KA11 5AE, Verenigd Koninkrijk
Established in 1897, Western Gailes Golf Club is a classic Scottish links with a memorable coastal routing. The course plays in a continuous anticlockwise loop from the clubhouse, with its widest stretches running tight between the sea and the railway. From the championship tees it stretches to more than 7,000 yards, demanding smart shot-making throughout. Fast, contoured greens, often set in bowls or saucers with subtle slopes, add to the challenge and reward precision. The 6th and 7th holes are a standout stretch, praised for their quality, while the closing five holes provide a stern finish, including the testing 17th par 4. Midway along the course, the clubhouse offers a traditional setting with bar and dining-room views across the Firth of Clyde to Arran.
