Golf in North West

South Africa’s North West province is a practical golf base for travellers combining rounds with safari country, small towns and weekend stays. Golf is spread across the southern approaches from Gauteng, the Magaliesberg area and the Pilanesberg–Rustenburg corridor, so a car is useful for linking accommodation, tee times and restaurants. Johannesburg is the usual long-haul gateway, while road journeys within the province can be several hours. The north and west feel more remote, so carefully confirm driving times rather than relying on map distance alone. Most golf trips work best as a multi-night itinerary rather than a single stop. Winter, broadly May to September, is usually the most comfortable period for daytime golf: rainfall is limited and skies are often clear, though mornings and evenings can be cool. Summer brings greener scenery and warmer days, but afternoon thunderstorms may interrupt play and make flexible tee times sensible. Pack sun protection year-round, carry water, and check local course conditions after heavy rain. Wildlife reserves have separate entry and driving considerations; allow extra time when combining a round with a safari visit.
